EMFA sticks to scribes’ protection
Electronic Media Forum Assam (Emfa), while condemning the physical assaults to two television reporters recently at the outskirt of the city, reiterated its stand in favour of a national protection law for the safety & security of media persons on duty.
Two young reporters namely Trilok Singh (Pratidin Time correspondent) and Bijoy Ghosh (Assam Talks correspondent) based at Jorabat faced attacks from miscreants on 13 July night, when they went to cover the fire that broke out at 9th Mile locality. An FIR was already lodged at Khanapara police outpost.
“We join the chorus by various media rights body for a special law to safeguard the journalists on duty hours across the country. We also believe that the journalist fraternity of India should (must) be ensured justice for their assignments as many of them may turn fatal,” said the Emfa statement.

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed shock and serious concern over the murder of three journalists in five months (since 1 January 2017) in the country and reiterated its old demand for a comprehensive national action plan to safeguard the scribes and ensure justice to the victims. The third case of assassination of journalists has been reported from Madhya Pradesh, where Kamlesh Jain was shot dead in his office at Pipliyamandi locality of Mandsaur district on the evening of 31 May.
