EMFA sticks to scribes’ protection
Electronic Media Forum Assam (Emfa), while condemning the physical assaults to two television reporters recently at the outskirt of the city, reiterated its stand in favour of a national protection law for the safety & security of media persons on duty.
Two young reporters namely Trilok Singh (Pratidin Time correspondent) and Bijoy Ghosh (Assam Talks correspondent) based at Jorabat faced attacks from miscreants on 13 July night, when they went to cover the fire that broke out at 9th Mile locality. An FIR was already lodged at Khanapara police outpost.
“We join the chorus by various media rights body for a special law to safeguard the journalists on duty hours across the country. We also believe that the journalist fraternity of India should (must) be ensured justice for their assignments as many of them may turn fatal,” said the Emfa statement.

Assam flood scene turns worse on Saturday claiming ten live during the last 24 hours. After a brief respite the Brahmaputra and it's tributeries are overflowing to sumberge at least 15 district. According to government, Kokrajhar alone has lost six people during since Thursday. Two people have been washed in Dhemaji and one each in Marigaon and and Lakhimpur. The weekly evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday (12 August 2017) was conducted by the city based physiotherapist Dr Kangkan Talukdar. Organized with supports from Indian Association of Physiotherapists and All Assam Physiotherapy Association, the camp witnessed the participation of around 25 media persons. Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expresses concern over the killing of another journalist to increase the tally of victims up to five in the last seven months of 2017 in India. The forum demands a proper probe into the incident relating to the murder of television journalist Surender Singh Rana on 29 July in Haryana. The local media reports revealed that Rana, who was associated with the Jammu-based news channel JK 24x7 News, was shot dead at Gurugram locality in broad daylight by four persons after an aggravated arguments. A 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Manipur on Thursday morning striking panic button for many people who feared the rerun of the 2015 massive jolt.
