Let-up in Assam flood fury but no respite from miseries

The water level is showing a receding trend on Sunday after it claimed altogether 27 people besides leaving more than thirteen lakh people affecting in altogether 14 districts. But the roaring Brahmaputra and its tributaries are still flowing above the danger level in several places.

According to information, the water level of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries is showing a receding trend bit slightly. The Brahmaputra river is rising in Dibrugarh and Goalpara while its showing a steady trend in Kamrup. In Jorhat, Dhubri and Tezpur there is slight fall in the water level of the river.

On the other hand, the water levels in the Dharamtul river is falling in Nagaon while in Barpeta the same is falling in the Manas river, Pagladiya in Nalbari, Puthimary in Kamrup, Beki at Barpeta Kushiara in Kariumganj. But the water levels of the Sonkosh in Golokganj and Jisbharali in Sonitpur is showing a rising trend. According to information, more than 13 lakh people have been reeling under the current flood wave. These include 2,41,884 in Lakhimpur, 16,4,800 in Sonitpur, 25,624 in Dhemaji, 3,44,021 in Morigaon and 61,150 in Dhubri districts.

On the other hand, Hajo sub division of Kamrup district has 20,000 flood affected people with 80,000 other in Rangiya sub division. Similarly, the number of flood affected people in Barpeta district stands at 159264, Majuli at 1,00,000, Dhubri at 66,150, Kokrajhar 111720, Bonmgaigaon at 1,00,000 Mangaldopi at 83,000 and Nalbari at 62,800.

The number of villages affected by flood is 190 in Majuli, 345 in Lakhimpur, 65 in Dhemaji, 27 in Sonitpur, 82 in Rangiya with 18 in Hajo circle in Kamrup rural district. On the other hand, Morigaon has 316 flood affected villages, Barpeta 316, Nagaon 80, Darrang 20, Kokrajhar 107, Bongaigaon 80, Mangaldoi 83 besides 50 villages in Nalbari. The government has deployed 85 boats for the continuing rescue operation and has set up more than 50 camps to accommodate 20350 flood affected people. Of these camps 3 in Dhubri, 68 in Morigaon, 11 in Kokrajhar, 5 in Bongaogaon, 12 in Dhemaji, 4 in Nagaon, 18 in Barpeta while Nalbari district has 3 relief camps.
