‘There was a village called Choto Nilibari consisted of 46 families, now it has totally washed out and eroded by Aie River in the fury flood waters this year and last year. Even though many ministers, MLAs including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the erosion last year and three days back Power minister Pallav Lachan Das visited at the flood affected site along with local administrations, yet no stern measure was seeing to protect the fury flood waters along the Aie River so far’, flood affected villagers said.
The villagers of Choto Nilibari under 31no. Sidli constituency in Chirang district, which has been represented by Chandan Brahma since 2006, have become homeless as well washed away all their properties in the flood waters and taking shelter scattered at different places, including relief camp at Sobhaijhar community hall since last year. The recent flood waters eroded new site of the village that caused more paddy land and houses of the citizens.
CM Sonowal last year and minister Das promised protection of erosion from Aie River,which has been becoming a dangerous situation for villagers as they face washed out properties and living sites, said villagers.
A villager told that 1.82 crore amount was sanctioned from water resources department last year to make protection at the eroded site Choto Nilibari village on Aie-River, but some peoples diverting the amount constructed a sand bundh on the middle portion of the river, which has no any measurable step towards flood affected areas. He said that many leaders, ministers, CM; officials rushed the spot to take stock about fury erosion and assured for stern measures, but solutions yet to be initiated to the protection or construction of bundh along the River.
He has alleged that the sanctioned amount was misused by some peoples instead of constructing proper protection bundh to the flood affected citizens. He said that presently, water resource department has been made few bamboo porcupine arrangements to make protection the erosion, which are not sufficient measures to check the fury flood waters.
‘We all lost our homes, properties, own land besides leave the place due to fury flood erosion last year and recent floods from Aie River. We have become helpless as flood waters washed out all needy occupations and become river flow on our land’, villagers said on tearful mood.
Most of the flood affected villagers of the Choto Nilibari have been taking shelter at Sobaijhar relief camp due to lost their house and properties since last year and face severe hardships in the camps due to scarcity of food and other needy materials.
Villagers alleged that government has never think to check flood erosion and protection at the village level of which why innocent villagers today lost their own homes, lands, crops in the flash fury floods. They expressed their concern over the insincerity attitude from government while making stern checking of flood protection in the area that has become serious threat for the citizens.
