 Along with other parts of the state, the people in Namrup paid tribute to the October 30 serial blast victims with shock and anger.  Led by local AASU unit, the people remembered the victims with 55 earthen lamps in the evening.  Namrup AASU President Kalpajit  Gogoi and General Secretary  Manash Jyoti Changmai said,”terrorism has no place in a civilised society and the government must root out this worst form at any cost.”  Prominent leaders from different fields attended the programme and lit up the earthen lamps.
Uncertainty over the proposed fourth BVFCL unit refuses to die down in Namrup. KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi is undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh where he was admitted a couple of hours back on Friday.  Gogoi, who had been languishing in Dibrugarh Central Jail since he was arrested for his objectionable speech at a meeting, was rushed to the hospital in the morning.  After a two hour long medical test, the doctors suggested the authorities to admit him for a better treatment of skin infection which he complained inside the jail.  A month after he was arrested for his objectionable speech, Gogoi later was arrested under the National Security Act.

Celebration of 33rd Foundation Day of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was held in Duliajan Bihutoli on Saturday. Assam Press Correspondent Union (APCU) Naharkatia subdivision branch and Namrup Press Club held a condolence meeting on Wednesday in Namrup Press Club to pay tribute to senior journalist Bolen Bora. Members of Namrup Press Club, APCU Naharkatia subdivision branch members and other guest were present in the programme.   Bora (58) died on  Monday at Nagaon due to sudden critical illness. Started his career as a photo journalist in 1985, Bora worked as press correspondent for Ajir Batori, Natun Dainik, Amar Asom and Dainik Asom. He was also a founder and editor of Kolongpar, a weekly Assamese. Bora was also president of APCU Nagaon District committee. 
Akon Chandra Buragohain (89), a retired State BVFCL Officer, social worker, founder of Namrup Music College , B.ed College, Namrup College, Namrup Tai Kristi Kendra  breathed his last at Aditya Nursing Home at 7.00pm on Sunday due to old age illness. He was born on 1928 at Sibsagar Panibeel Lanka Gohain Gaon. He completed his studies in Naira H.S. School and Shillong Edmund College. After graduation he joined as Block Development Officer at Naharani, Naharkatia subdivision. Later he joined Namrup BVFCL in 1963  as a security officer.
