The dip in overall pass percentage of all the three streams – Arts, Science and Commerce in the 2017 HS examination conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has resulted in dip in cutoff marks in Tangla College compared to last year.The admission process is underway in Tangla College in undergraduate courses in all the three streams arts, science and commerce.
The cut-off in Arts for English which was touching almost 80% last year dipped to 60%. While in Economics where it was 63% last year dipped to 42% whereas in Political science which was at 55% last year remained at 53% the cutoff in Education remained at 66% close to last years 68%. The cutoff in Assamese remained at 70% this year.
In science stream last year the highest cut off was in Zoology 80% which dipped to 62% . In Chemistry where the cutoff was 68% last year dipped to 56%. In Botany the cutoff wae 64% last year which clinched to 68% this year .
In commerce stream last year the highest cutt off was for management 64% which dipped to 40%.
"Aggregate percentage as well as marks scored in major seeking subject were taken into account for admissions," said an admission committee member of the college.
While in Arts and Commerce stream every subject had 40 major seats; the Science stream lagged behind with barely 20 major seats in each subject. Admission to arts major seats was held on Thursday and Science and Commerce major seat was held on Friday.
A faculty member of science stream, on condition of anonymity said that due to small sized science laboratory rooms,since long the major seats remained intact at 20 . Highest applications in Science stream were seeking major in Zoology and Botany.It is pertinent to mention that this time Tangla College along with other 44 other colleges in four districts of BTAD viz. Udalguri,Baksa,Chirang and Kokrajhar has come under Bodoland University of Kokrajhar.
