Statues of Kalaguru, Rup Konwar and Sudhakantha unveiled

On the occasion of 48th death anniversary of Kalaguru Brishnu Prashad Rabha on Tuesday, Rava Divas was observed in different places of Nazira region.

Statues of three icones of the Assamese society unveiled - KalaguruBrishnu Prashad Rabha, Rup Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika - were built in the  bank of the Dikhow river. In this connection and remembering the Rabha Divas a public meeting were held on last 20th June,  where MLA of Nazira Debobrate Saikia, ex Minister Hemoprova Saikia, senior journalist Vashkar Borgohain etc were present a long with other signatories.

A six year old boy in Nazira is battling for life at the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh after he was hit by a car on which civil SDO was travelling on Friday.The incident where Abonit Sahu sustained injury took place at Nazira town in the morning when he was trying to cross the road to be hit by the car bearing No AS 04 L 0004 owned by the senior administrative officer.
Noted historian and leading citizen in Nazira Akhil Paniphukan passed away on Friday. The end of the 90 year old Paniphukan came in the wee hours at his own residence in Nazira town. He is survived by three sons and three daughters.MLA Debobrata Saikia, former minister Dr. Hemoprabha Saikia, left leader Durpod Borgohain, Nazira Press Club, Freelance Journalist Association of Nazira along with many local organizations condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Nazira MLA Debobrata Saikia has blamed it all on the Centre for the deplorable road condition in the constituency.Talking to Assam Times, Saikia said the Hindu nationalist party-led NDA government curtailed the funds to the state which is why, the state government is not in a position to repair the roads and bridges.

The Nazira unit of All India Krishok Sobha observed its foundation day with a day long programme  at Natiya Mandir on Tuesday.The organization took out a long procession in the town to mark the occasion to be marked by a public meeting the at Nazira Natiya Mandir where Left veterans Durpod Borgohain Kanok Gogoi were also present along with other dignatories. The meeting demanded immediate withdrawal of the move to amend the Land Acquisition Bill 2013 along with measures to prevent erosion in Assam, pension for agricultural labours, solve the unemployed problem and stop privatization move.

ONGC will start its state-of-the-art hospital in Rajabari in December this year.This was what AASU told reporters in Nazira after a meeting with the oil major officials on Thursday.ONGC officials further agreed to implement other promises in the meeting with AASU leaders in Jorhat.
