International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm here at Patanjali Acharjya Kulam in Garuajhar of Udalguri along the Indo-Bhutan border on Wednesday. Kamali Basumatari legislator of Panery LAC took part in the programme as chief guest. Addressing a gathering on the occasion,Basumatari said that there is no relation of religion with Yoga. Basumatari touched upon several steps which the BJP government in the state has taken for promoting yoga. Bonjar Daimari EM BTC said ,"Yoga is our ancient discipline, it helps strength mind and intellect. We can keep our body free from disease by doing yoga regularly. Rajeev Chowdhury in-charge of Patanjali Assam,Suresh Tanti MCLA BTC,Hemanta Bora Koch of Udalguri district committee AKRSU along with social workers and Patanjali Sevaks were among others present on the occasion.At the event, around 500 participants including students performed yoga. The students also showcased magnificient acrobatic skills .
A two-day traditional folk dance extravaganza, "Lokdarshan," concluded on Sunday at the Sri Govinda Mishra Library premises in Nijdola, Udalguri district. Jointly organized by the Eastern Zone Cultural Center, Kolkata, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in association with the "Bhaoria" cultural group of Kamrup, the event aimed to promote the rich cultural heritage of various ethnic groups.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Gaon Pradhan of Nijdola village Basundhar Rabha as the chief guest, while folk singer Bulumoni Deka lit the inaugural lamp. Dr. Jayanta Kumar Deka inaugurated the cultural evening.
