The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has been preparing to observe 30th Bodoland movement martyrs day on June 12 at Bijni of Chirang district to mark the death anniversary of Sujit Narzary, first martyr of Bodoland movement. Thirty years ago the first Bodoland movement martyr Sujit Narzary was attacked while returning from a rally at Guwahati in 1987. He was declared as the first martyr for the cause of Bodoland movement, who was a student of class IX at Kokrajhar H.S. and Multi Purpose School, Korkrajhar.
"Since then the 12 June has been observed as the Bodoland Movement Martyrs’ Day every year commemorating all the martyrs who have sacrificed their life for the statehood movement which has become the legacy for the lives of 1135 martyrs during the period of 1987-1993" Lawrence Islary, general secretary of ABSU said in a press statement on Thursday.
Remembering those revolutionary souls the ABSU is going to observe the Bodoland Martyrs Day at Bijni of Chirang from 8:00 AM in the morning. This event will be observed with grand mass gathering to voice the unresolved Bodoland State Demand. The programme at Bijni will be participated by the leaders who have become the living example witnessing the movement atrocities done by the Assam Police Battalions and miscreants in different parts of the state, Islary said.
