A 17 year old girl trafficked to Delhi from Kokrajhar a month back was rescued and brought back home today.
The minor girl was trafficked from a remote village under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar a month back by her own brother-in-law Hopna Mardi and later handed over to an agency in Kanpur.
According to the girl she was taken by brother-in-law with promise of providing good job. She said she was first taken to Kanpur where she was kept for a week before taking to Delhi where she was put up in a house as a maid. The girl managed to run and called her family over phone. She was rescued by the Delhi police who later kept her in a shelter home.
The girl’s father with the help of local student union All Adivasi Students Association of Assam(AASAA) and Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar based NGO later filed an FIR with the police.
A team from the police, the girl’s family and AASAA member went to Delhi and brought her back.
According to the victim she said she was subjected physical abuse which forced her to run.
The accused trafficker Hopna Mardi is absconding.
