Bodo medium day celebrated

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) celebrated 55th Bodo Medium Day on Thursday across the state with various programme scheduled to mark first Bodo medium introduced day for Bodo students in the state.

The Bodo medium was first introduced on May 18 in 1963 at Kokrajhar and Dotma block during the Congress reign in Assam under the Chief Ministership of Bimala Prasad Chaliha.

In Kokrajhar, district Bodo Sahitya Sabha organized the day at Satish Chandra Basumatary Bhawan in Kokrajhar to mark the glorious 55 years of Bodo medium in the state.The Bodo medium has been excelled in its 55 years so far with Bodo language since 1963 as it was first introduced in LP schools to give education through mother tongue.

Bhumilal Narzary, vice president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bodo sahitya sabha hoisted sabha flag on the occasion. Mahilal Basumatary, secretary BSS on the occasion attended as guest. Basumatary has demanded early creation of separate directorate for Bodo medium to gain educational atmosphere for Bodos.He has urged the government to appoint teachers in Bodo medium schools, sufficient supply of free textbooks for the students so that students could get proper education.

 The Bodo language till today included in eight scheduled besides got regional language recognized in UPSC examination. The Bodo medium was introduced in ME schools on  April 2(1968), introduced as MIL subjects in colleges under Guwahati University on May 26(1977), recognized as MIL in Guwahati University on January 25(1980), recognized as MIL in colleges under Dibrugarh University on August 22(1994), recognized as elective subject in colleges under Guwahati University in 1999, Bodo language included into eight scheduled on December 22( 2003), recognized as regional language in UPSC examination on December 3(2005), recognized as major subject in colleges under Guwahati University on January 18(2006) and Assam Higher Secondary Education council recognized Bodo language as advance language in 2006.

 Meanwhile, the ABSU organized a seminar on the topic of ‘My education and my future’ in connection with the celebration of Bodo medium day at Jainary High School in Kokrajhar district. The seminar was organized by Simbargaon anchalik committee of ABSU in association with Kokrajhar district unit ABSU with Janak Mushahary in the chair. Prof Adaram Basumatary,Janata College Serfanguri,Kastom Basumatary,education secretary of ABSU are attended as resource person on the occasion.Rabindra Basumatary, headmaster Jainary High School inaugurated the seminar in the presence of huge participation from student and guardians.

Kokrajhar, May 2:  A search operation that began yesterday evening concluded today with the recovery of three bodies from the Beki River near Manas National Park in Baksa district. The three youths, identified as Deep Saha, Raj Saha, and Abhijit Karmakar, all from Barpeta Road, reportedly went missing after entering the river for a swim on Wednesday evening. KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar. The incident occurred along ride no. 1 under the Jharbari range of the Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district, where the smuggler was fatally shot while transporting logs on a cycle from deep within the forest.
