A great programme of releasing a new book on social developments in undivided Darrang in the form of literary narration and felicitation of a newly promoted Brigadier from undivided Darrang district was held at Sanatan Mandir at Mangaldai on May 7.An Assamese book titled “Xowaranir Xonowali Pristha” written by Dr Hiranya Kr Nath, eminent economist and Professor of Sam Houston State University, Texas, USA has been released on Sunday.On the occasion a public function was organized here at the premises of Sanatan Dharmasabha where eminent artiste Sudakhsina Sarma formally released the book published by“ Aank-Baak” in presence of several distinguished personalities including retired Professor of Gauhati University Dr Gobinda Prasad Sarma , well known writer and thinker Mayur Bora,Deputy Commissioner of Darrang Ashok Kr Barman,veteran academicians Badan Ch Saikia and Phulendra Nath Saharia among others.The speakers in their speeches underlined the quality of expression of Dr Hiranya Kr Nath in pure and spontaneous Assamese language even after spending many years of student and profession life in the USA as very unique and precise.The speakers defined the subject matter of the book which is a collection of the anecdotes from the lives of writer Nath’s father Gambhir Chandra Nath and mother Golapi Nath as having similarity with the world famous book “Life and Opinions” by Tristram Shandy as because it couldn’t be categorized either as an autobiography or as an economic analysis.The speakers termed it as a valuable description of a section of the social history of the State.They also appreciated the style of presentation and narration till the end as that of high quality and hoped that all sections of readers will find their taste in the book and they will go through it.The function attended by several hundreds public and anchored by senior journalist of Darrang Bhargab Kumar Das also featured felicitation to local boy Ajit Kumarr Bora,a very efficient officer of the Indian Army,receiving the honour of VSM and who has recently been promoted to the post of Brigadier by two local public organizers Mangaldai Media Circle and Crystal Vision with a traditional Muga Gamosa,a letter of citation and a memento.Mayukh Goswami,Darrang correspondent of The Assam Tribune and also the secretary of Mangaldai Media Circle and Hitesh Hazarika, president of Mangaldai Media Circle offered the felicitation to Brigadier Ajit Kumar Borah,the first Brigadier from Darrang and Udalguri district.Several hundred senior citizens of Darrang including media personnel attended the programme.
Man-elephant conflict has been a burning issue in Assam during recent years.The only reason was massive destruction of forests and encroachment on all National Parks,Wildlife Sanctuaries, Reserve Forests, Proposed Reserve Forests,grazing fields and riverine lands.In northern areas of Udalguri district bordering Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh this man made conflict has been creating havoc during past five years ie from 2012 to 2016 with deaths of 85 human beings and 35 wild elephants beside damage of several hundred houses and crops.At the same time the district has witnessed massive encroachment on forest lands during the periods.As per official records out of 24,995 Hectors of lands...
