Chingai MLA visits landslide-hit Sirarakhong village

Underscoring his concern for the landslide-affected villagers of Sirarakhong village, MLA of Chingai AC Khashim Vashum extended monetary aid and reassured the affected villagers of government assistance during his visit to the village on Wednesday.

Khashim, who is also Parliamentary Secretary, was accompanied by concerned ADC Khayinghor, LM Subdivision SDO Pawan Yadav and departmental officials.

Upon his arrival at around 2 pm, Khashim Vashum along with the official team inspected the site ravaged by heavy landslide triggered by torrential rains recently.

During a public gathering held at the village community hall, Khashim handed over a sum of Rs. 1 lakh on behalf of Planning and Transport departments, apart from extending 20 bags of rice for the affected villagers.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA said that the occurrence of landslides that devastated four houses and left many other homesteads vulnerable was very unfortunate and expressed his deep regret for being unable to reach out to the affected villagers in time as he was in Delhi attending a parliamentary orientation programme at that time.

He, nevertheless, asked the villagers not to assume his delayed visit as indifference or lack of concerns, and went on to state that:"I have my own convictions about my concerns for the affected villagers."

It is important to identify the causes and take necessary steps accordingly, so as to preempt such calamities in future, he said.

"Which is why I began preparing for a fact finding report to identity the causes of the devastating landslide, before I visit here," he continued and added that the report will be finalized shortly.

Further, assuring the villagers of every possible assistance from government side, Khashim conveyed that he has submitted a proposal for taking up a water supply scheme for the village in view of the water scarcity faced by the villagers.

During his short visit to the village, Khashim Vashum had a few stopovers at Talui, Somdal and Ringui villages and interacted with the villagers.

Meanwhile, Sirarakhong village authority submitted a memorandum to MLA Khashim urging him to fulfill the government promises for rehabilitation of the affected villagers and construction of retaining wall at the sunken site at the earliest.
