Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Assam twice this year if he accepts the invitation from chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Sonowal called on Modi in New Delhion Wednesday and invited him to attend the Dhola-Saniya bridge opening ceremony next month. The chief minister further invited him to attend the global investment summit in Guwahati on November 9,10,11.

An unidentified body of a girl was found from a compartment of the Awadh-Assam Express at Guwahati Railway station on Friday.The body was found after the train arrived in Guwahati from Lalgarh in Rajasthan to be spotted by the cleaners inside a plastic drum near the bathroom of S-7 coach. Railway authorities have ordered an enquiry and efforts are on to identify the passengers, who had boarded the coach and left the bag.

An independent panchayat candidate allegedly committed suicide on Friday after losing an election in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district. Mintu Das contested from 114 Ganmou village panchayat in Sualkuchi and lost the elections, the results for which were announced on Friday night. A depressed Das later hanged himself in his house.
