Palm Sunday observes in Sunday
As the holy week for the Christian community begins the world over, the community in Orengajuli tea garden also celebrated Palm Sunday in the market complex. The celebrations marks the annual commemoration of the Holy Week of Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ that has been observed traditionally for centuries.
According to custom, on Palm Sunday, people carry small palm tree branches in a procession from a church courtyard to inside of it, singing hymns denoting the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Orengajuli Christian denominations namely- Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, Gosner, NW believers took part in the procession. Such procession by Christian denomination in Orengajuli has been carried out since 5 years from now and brings all Christian churches together.
Following soon after is Maundy Thursday, the day Jesus Christ celebrated the last supper with his disciples, four days after the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. After this, comes Good Friday marking the arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. The third day from then is Easter, the feast of Jesus's resurrection, said Samuel Bagh, a pastor. He also reminded all the families to commemorate “Good Friday”.

The mysterious death of an elephant calf casts no less spell of shadow in Udalguri on Monday. According to Ranjit Tanti, a wildlife activist, the calf, aged around 8, was found dead at a paddy field in Jorpukhuri village under Nonai forest range. Body of one Bikash Munda (18), an Adivasi youth was recovered Monday morning in No.1 sonajuli area under Dimakuchi, Udalguri. Police recovered the body from his uncle’s house and further investigations are on. It has been reported that Bikash Munda son of Rantu Munda had gone to sleep at his uncle’s house adjacent to Nengta Bodo’s house who have fled from their residence since morning.
