Indefinite hunger strike enters second day

The indefinite hunger strike organised by the All Bodo Students Union ABSU, NDFB (P) and PJACBM seeking separate Bodo state and political rights of the Bodos living outside proposed Bodoland enters in second day on Saturday which was started from Friday in Kokrajhar.

Meanwhile, the health condition of some of the members who are participating in the indefinite hunger strike is slowly deteriorating. Since completion of 32 Hours many members are on treatment given medication on its second day.

The hunger strike venue has been shifted to Kokrajhar Higher Secondary & MP school ground from  near FCI godown, JD road due to pouring of incessant rainfall.

Thousands of people from many corners from different districts of the state are taking part in the strike with banner,placards,apart from Promod Boro, president, ABSU, Dhiren Boro, chairman, NDFB (P) and Rakesh Boro, chief convenor, PJACBM including dignitaries of the organizations and 1111 members, where 17 women are also in the hunger strike.

Promod Boro, president of the ABSU slammed the present government both at the centre and state of Assam for showing indifferent attitude towards solving the problems of Bodo and other indigenous tribes of proposed Bodoland state.

‘The BJP promised both written (manifesto) and verbal that they would resolve the Boro problem immediately if they could come to power in New Delhi. They were voted to power and their regime in Delhi has completed three years now’,he said. However, the fact is there is no initiative to execute their promise in reality. They have halted the very continuity of dialogue, which apparently means the regime is not willing to resolve the problem.

The ABSU, NDFB (P) and PJACBM, the joint movement groups have taken the path of non-violent democratic movement to pressurize the government of India to resolve the Bodoland demand. But the government is not showing interest in resolving the issues. What can be more shameful is that the govt. is not interested anything related to any movement of non-violence. They simply understand the language of violence causing law and order situation.

He mentioned that during the period of UPA government several rounds of talks were held with the government for negotiation of peaceful solution. But during this three years Modi government in Delhi we have not seen of taking any measure to resume the talk with the movement organizations.

Boro expressed grievances the role of media for not highlighting such an important issue which needs focus to resolve the problem at the earliest once and for all.

‘We expected the media would highlight our Indefinite Hunger Strike program but it was not seen as expected’,the ABSU president added.
