Criminal activities have become the order of the day in some pockets along the Assam-Meghalaya inter state border much to the major worries of the people dwelling in the border areas for decades. Not only the rebel outfits, a section of criminals start unleashing no less terror in the form of kidnapping and extortion.
Assam and Meghalaya police jointly rescued a girl and her mother in South Garo hills during an operation on Thursday giving a sigh of relief to a family.
The duo were rescued on Thursday during an intensified joint operation along the Assam-Meghalaya inter state border.
The local resident of Nokatgre in South Garo Hills district were kidnapped by miscreants as they were on the way to Gaibandha village in South Salmara district of Assam on Monday.
Identified as Nul Jamal and Md Jhan, the two people who claimed to have been dealing in areca nut asked Beken Marak and his family members to come to his house in Gaibandha in Assam’s South Salmara district. As Marak, his wife and daughter reached Jamal’s house, the traders detained the woman and her daughter and sent the husband to bring Rs 50,000 as ransom to get the family back from their custody.
As Marak lodged the complaint, a joint team of police from Baghmara and Tikrikilla the operation and rescued both the girls from a house on Thursday. Nul Jamal was caught rend handed while Jhan is on the run.
Police operation is going on to capture Jhan.
