AASU blockade in protest of Silapathar incident

Amidst unrest and protest in various parts of state condemning the unprecedented attack by activists of Nikhil Bharat Bengali Udbastu Sammanay  Samiti at AASU’s Silapathar regional office, the Tangla Anchalik Chatra Santha organized a strong protest rally and road blockade programme in the heart of Tangla on Wednesday demanding immediate arrest of the culprits of the Silapathar incident. The protest rally was also joined by activists of AJYCP and common public of the town. The protesters resorted to burning of tyres and staging road blockade of the Mangaldai-Bhutiachang  Road for nearly two hours. The traffic and normal life was completly brought to a halt.

Jayanta Kr. Bhattacharya Assistant General Secretary AASU addressing the protest  condemned the ransacking of the AASU office at Silapathar in Dhemaji district in strongest term and said that the incident was a reminder  for the unification of the indigenous  sons of the soil against external forces.
"We will not let the sacrifice of 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement go in vain. The historic Assam Accord should be implemented  in letter and spirit ",
said Jayanta Kr. Bhattacharya.

Bhattacharya exhorted  the Sarbananda Sonowal led state government to work for the protection and interest of its indigenious people.

He also lambasted the  governments in the state and the centre for showing laxity towards the issue of illegal immigrants.

Saiful Haque activist of AASU said the student body would not rest until the state was freed from illegal immigrants and supremacy of the indigenous people of the state was ensured. Haque also said the attack on the indigenous people and their institution was not tolerable and the Silapathar incident had indicated the threat towards the indigenous
people of the State. 

He further said that the people of Assam should take the Silapathar incident as a lesson and must be united to stand against the Bangladeshi influx, whether Hindus or Muslims.

Amidst a large gathering, the protestors also burnt the effigy of Subodh Biswash, president of NBBUSS and alleged perperator of Silapathar incident. The protest rally was peacefully ended and no untoward incident was reported.

UDALGURI: A 30-year-old man allegedly hacked his father to death at their house in Barangabari near Dimakuchi in Udalguri district on Saturday night over a trivial dispute. UDALGURI: Udalguri Election Officer Karpun Patir has resigned from the post over cash-for-job scam. The scam came to light after the Dibrugarh police arrested one Naba Kanta Patir, an engineer, from Dibrugarh after they caught him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a lady doctor promising a government job on October 27, 2016.  Karpun Patir is the son of former Congress Minister Sumitra Patir. UDALGURI: The troops of 37th Bn, SSB, Mangaldoi, stationed at Border outpost,Bangrum thwarted a major attempt of timber smuggling. The troops seized one Tata Pickup van near Barmakhuli Bridge along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri on Thursday morning.A consignment of fifty number of wooden Planks were recovered from the vehicle. The troops also apprehended two timber smugglers in this connection who have been identified as Santosh Basumatary (27) and Pradeep Daimari (40)both hailing from Hagramari village under Harisinga P.S in Udalguri. The seized items were later handed over to Forest Office Nonaikhuti, Udalguri for further legal action.
