Meeting on flood preparedness held

A flood preparedness meeting under the presidentship of Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Bibekananda Choudhury was held in Kokrajhar on Friday. Various subjects, including vulnerability assessment, stocking of food grains and other essential commodities, medicines, safe drinking water, maintenance of power damage assessment, keeping available equipments for rescue operation during flood were discussed as a part of preparedness in the meeting.

Citing numerous problems that appear during flood, the DC called upon officers to always keep themselves ready for any eventuality.

He has asked all the circle officers and district heads of the departments to submit their flood preparedness plans, quick response teams and relief committees before March 31 to the DDMA. He also highlighted department wise responsibilities like Water Resources department to complete all protection works, all Circle Officers to prepare list of boat owners, Health department to keep ready adequate number of life saving drugs and to form medical teams, veterinary department to ensure sufficient stock of podder, medicines and water for animals, PWD to inspect and indentify vulnerable roads, bridges, culverts, buildings and repair them before the onset of monsoon, FCS and CA department to keep sufficient stock of food grains in the FCI etc.

In the meeting, he also requested the Kokrajhar Municipality Board Chairman Bishnu Narzary to take action for cleaning of drains to make the town area free from water logging during rainy season. ADC and incharge Gossaigaon SDO Civil Wilbarn Daimary, Parbatjhara SDO Civil Satish Thakuria, Kokrajhar CO Ansula Basumatary, ACs Bharat Konwar, Manika Terongpi, KMB Chairman Bishnu Narzary and district heads of concerned departments were also present in the meeting.

KOKRAJHAR: Citizens in Lower Assam districts including  Bodoland Territorial Council  have expressed happiness and gladness having found resumed of internet services today after eight days blockade. The internet service was found resumed at 9 am that saw smilling and happiness environment amongst the citizens in the region. Earlier, BTC region was made exempted from the disruption of net services from state government on December 10. However, all kinds of internet services were made disrupted all over the state on December 12 to keep the strong mass protest against the controversial citizenship (amendement) act.

Activists and members from All Assam Nath Yogi Students Union carried out a protest demonstration along the JD Road near District Computer centre in Kokrajhar against the CAB bill and burnt effigies of Sonowal and Sarma. KOKRAJHAR: Normal life was paralised  in four districts of Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) region on Tuesday due to 11-hour north east bandh called to put protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which was tabled in Lok Sabha on Monday amidst strong oppossed from different corner. KOKRAJHAR: The ruling partner in the state alliance government, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has said that the their party is going to participate in the ensuing 2020 BTC general elections. Speaking the reporters at Kokrajhar Press Club on Sunday, AGP leader Subir Chakraborty told that his party was fully prepared to contest the council elections due in March-April 2020 under the alliance spirits of BJP-BPF-AGP in the state. KOKRAJHAR: Noted social activist, former leader of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and close associate of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Yamao Jwhwlao Brahma passed away on Wednesday night at a private hospital in Guwahati.
