ABSU meet ends with historic decision

 The Jangkritai Pwthar falls silent as the golden jubilee celebration of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) concluded with huge gathering.

The concluding day was marked by a colourful cultural rally  flagged off by former ABSU president and BTC MCLA Rwngwra Narzary showcasing the cultural heritage of the Bodos, Rabhas, Nepalis,Garos and the Adivashis.

The open session was opened by Gandhian and member of Initiative of Change, Nagaland Niketu Iralu in presence of activist founder of Mazdoor kisan Shakti Sangathan and Ramon Magsaysay awardee Aruna Roy attended the function as chief guest.

In her speech, Roy lauded the ABSU for carrying forward the struggle of the downtrodden Boro people. She assured all help in the ABSU’s struggle and movement for their rights.

Students union's activities towards bringing quality education and social uplift among down trodden communities is a noble venture among society in the state of Assam. It will be bringing a social change among human community', Roy said.

Columnist and former Press Adviser to Nepal Prime Minister Shreekrishna Aniruddha Gautam, former Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra, working president of Vidarbha Rajya Aghadi Swapnajit Sanyal, general secretary of All Assam tribal Sangha Aditya Khakhlary were the appointed speaker.

Prof Shantha Sinha, former chairperson NCPCR said that the students union's working to the growth of human resources is a very remarkable moment for the society.

Representatives from various organsiations including chief executive member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Thankeswar Rabha, president of IPFT, Tripura Mewar Kumar Jamatia, chairman of NDFB Ranjan Daimary, representatives from Telengana, Gorkhaland among other attended the function as guests.

The ABSU in its delegate session adopted several eight important resolutions including to intensify the Bodoland movement into a vigorous and continuous  movement until and unless the Bodoland   demand is conceded by the Government of India, to form a Peace Brigade (Gwjwn Paikhi) a volunteer organization for the effective social change, Complete eradication of Poverty, Ensure communal harmony & understanding among communities, Protection of land and natural resources and to Work to remove superstition & witch hunting.

The meeting unanimously resolved to work for the protection of Ancestral land and appeal the BTC government to withdraw the land allotted to any private group and also appeal not to allot any land to private groups or large scale land of tribal areas to paramilitary forces. It also appeal both the government not to ignored the issue of Arms Struggle and ceasefire by different Arms groups in Assam and NE region and also demand a policy decision to resolve the extremist issues within short period of time for the interest of sustainable peace and development.

Meanwhile Promod Boro and Lawrence Islary were retained as president and general secretary of All Bodo students union.

Promo Boro, president of the ABSU thanked to all concern those who were extended supports to meet a grand success of the celebration.

He said the students union has been working for the uplift of social integration among all sections of communities in the region. He said that students union will be celebrating the golden jubilee with year long programme scheduled which started from this season.

'The students union was working for all round development of the societies so that region could gain healthy in education and integrated', Boro said.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra extended his best wishes to the celebration of golden jubilee on its 50 anniversary today.
