Bodoland Day celebrated

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the peace and unity is the main root while bringing development and integration among all sections of communities in the state.

 The 15th Bodoland Day was celebrated at BTC Secretariat ground, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar on Friday to mark the 15 years historic BTC Accprd Day with a day- long colourful programme amid a huge gathering of people from all walk of life.

Chief Minister Sonowal attended the function as chief guest. In his speech, the chief minister stressed the need to build a peaceful and healthy society free from corruption,terrorism,infilltration, pollution. He said development happens only when there is peace and harmony. Stating that the Bodos are the earliest settlers of Assam, he said “without Bodos, greater Assamese cannot be built”.

Sonowal assured all possible help for development of BTC. He also shower praise to BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary of development activities in his 14 years rule as BTC chief since its inception in the region.

He said that BTAD administration has been emphasizing for bringing peace and unity in the region.

‘We must maintain peace and tranquility among all sections of communities through which citizens could gain development’, Sonowal said adding that state government has been working with dedicated to bring more development projects like education, social uplift through which citizens could be gaining our state to meet good governance, CM said.

Hagrama Mohilary,BTC chief said  that BTC administration celebrated Bodoland Day on the historic BTC Accord Day,which was singed on February 10 in between centre,state and the then BLT leaders.The BTC region look ushering of development in all aspects like road communication,health,education after signing the Bodo accord.He has claimed that 80 percent of the clauses of the BTC accord has so far implemented in today’s era.He said that his council was working for all round development of all communities in the region with several new initiatives.

‘Formation of model BTC is the prime job with bringing well develop among citizens of all sections’,Mohilary said.

He has urged citizens of the region to maintain peace and unity to gain more development aspects in the region.

Ambassador Deepak Vohra, special advisor to Prime Minister of Lesotho nad Guinea-Bissau, in his speech lauded Mohilary of development in the Council region and assured necessary help and cooperation.

Assam Agriculture minister Atul Bora,who is also Assam Gana Parishad president,for Assembly speaker and Assam state BJP chief Ranjit Das also spoke the occasion.They appreciated BTC chief Mohilary for initiating remarkable journey to the field of development and unity after inception BTC in the region.

Earlier BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary paid tribute to Bodoland Martyrs at Bodoland Martyrs cemetery situated at Debargaon. Mohilary also lighted the lamp and paid floral tribute at the statue of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma in front of the BTC secretariat.

Two important awards constituted by bTC administration- Promod Chandra Brahma literary award presented to noted writer and Sahitya Academy awardee Anjanli Basumatary(Anju) and Nileswar Brahma cultural award was presented to super dancer grand finalist Massom Narzary by chief minister.

A colourful cultural programme and display of tableaus by various departments of BTC was showcase.

The BTC authority also felicitated award winning writers, sports persons and artists who brought laurels to the region through their works. 

Among those present on the occasion includes Assam ministers Pramila Rani Brahma,Rihan Daimary,  Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary,Rabiram Narzary,Kamalsing Narzary,MLAs.

KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar. The incident occurred along ride no. 1 under the Jharbari range of the Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district, where the smuggler was fatally shot while transporting logs on a cycle from deep within the forest. Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
