Prez calls NE astalakhi

President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday stressed sustainable development in the north eastern region.

In his opening speech in Parliament, Mukherjee called the north east Astalakhi and said the region has immense potentials to help the entire nation develop.

He said the metre gauge lines in the seven states and Sikkim would be converted to broad gauge line this year itself drawing applause from all the legislators.Railway minister of state Rajen Gohain, who hails from Assam looked very excited as the president was addressing the joint session on Tuesday morning.
