WWF-AAPSO launches volunteers’ programme
WWF-India AAPSO Thursday launched its much-awaited volunteer programme, WWF Volunteers at Sudmersen Hall, Cotton College aimed at inspiring individuals and organizations to take positive conservation action for a better planet. Introducing the Volunteering Programme, Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, Coordinator, WWF-India AAPSO said that the programme will reach to people from all walks of life including students, resident welfare associations, corporate employees, senior citizens and home makers. The programme offer exciting conservation projects and opportunities to work together towards creating a conservation impact in one’s own circle.
The event saw participation from several organizations, corporations and educational institutions to celebrate and promote volunteerism. Talking to this correspondent Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO, WWF-India said, “Environmental degradation is a concern for everyone in the world today. We have seen through our engagements with individuals and organizations, a strong interest in participating in initiatives towards positive action. This programme is a platform to bring together people with a common interest for nature conservation in an informed and responsible manner.”
Prominent personalities from society and environmentalist like Prof. Dhruba Saikia, VC -CCSU, Prof P C Bhattacharjee, Dr. Narayan Sharma, Prof. Prasanta Kr. Saikia, Shri M C Malakar, Dr. Jayaditya Purkayastha along with the Advisors of WWF- India, AAPSO Prof Ranjit Kr. Chowdhury, Kashinath Hazarika and Prof. Amlandeep Das while speaking on the occasion invited students and citizens to get involved in any conservation project to leave a greener earth for future generations.
The programme also honoured the National Champions of Wild Wisdom Quiz from Assam, Bhraaz Kashyap and Kristhi Nayan Nath of Don Bosco School, Guwahati. WWF-India intends to influence a large section of the Indian population to significantly improve the country's ecological condition in future and sees citizen participation as central to the achievement of this mission. The WWF Volunteer programme will empower citizens and organizations to engage directly by working on-ground in WWF conservation projects, and hopefully inspire greater conscientiousness towards the environment.

WWF-India in association with the Cotton College State University (CCSU) today screened a 54 minute film titled: 'The Forgotten Tigers', by eminent wildlife filmmaker Krishnendu Bose. The screening followed a discussion by the filmmaker on ‘Tiger Conservation’ at the KBR Auditorium of CCSU. The Wild Wisdom Quiz, launched by WWF-India in 2008 has emerged as Asia’s largest wildlife quiz competition and the only national level wildlife quiz in India. The Assam City level Wild Wisdom Quiz of WWF-India in association with Ministry of Environment & Forest and Central Board of Secondary Education was held Friday at the Royal Global School auditorium Guwahati.
