Young Srijangram, a socio-cultural organisation of Bongaigaon district has initiated a mission titled as ‘Prajna- The Light of Knowledge’ to set up libraries at government schools. As part of this mission, a library was inaugurated on Thursday at Khamarpara LP School. In his inaugural speech, Atul Ch Dev Ray, Head Master of Srijangram High School lauded the effort of Young Srijangram and termed it as a revolutionary step. Speaking on the occasion, Alak Chandra Ray expressed his hope that the move would form the habit of reading among students and bring positive outcome to the society. The other dignitaries who attended the programme were AASU Literary Secretary Anjan Kalita, social activits Arup Pathak, Buddheswar Ray, Nijen Sarkar, Jayanti Baruah, Laksheswar Pathak etc. Lilabati Baruah and Sabita Nath, teachers of the school also welcomed the step and promised well-functioning of the library . The programme was hosted by Rinkumani Pathak and Dwipjyoti Ray.
The Tezpur Central University students took out a candle march on Sunday evening in protest against the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Margherita. Nearly 300 students of the varsity participated in the silent march protest demanding exemplary punishment of the Buddhist monk. It may be noted that a class 6 girl was brutally raped by a Buddhist monk named Indensa on August 3. The victim and her elder brother, residents of Jagun Lakhla village had visited the temple at Namdang to offer prayer when the incident took place.
