Candle lighting protest

A candle lighting protest rally was held on Saturday evening in Kokrajhar in protest against killing of Ratna Narzary, an innocent villager of Kumguri of Chirang district on Wednesday last at an fake by security forces at Laopani area of Kokrajhar district and demanded independent inquiry into incident.

A large number of students, intellectuals and common people gathered in the protest at Kokrajhar Govt College complex, which was organised jointly by North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) and Kokrajhar Govt College Students Union(KGCSU),demanded an immediate independent inquiry into killing of Ratna Narzary,a vilager in fake encounter.They termed that all the security personnel responsible for the killing of Ratna Narzary should be immediately suspended and an inquiry should be initiated against them as well appropriate and immediate compensation should be provided to the victim’s family.

They demanded government should take the responsibility of the educational expenses of deceased’s children and provide a government job or any source of income for the wife of the deceased to look after the family.Both the organisations strongly condemned the brutal killing of Ratna Narzary by the security forces on the pretext of identifying him as an NDFB (Songbijit) militant.

It should be known that this is however a blatant case of fake encounter by the forces as Narzary's family and the headman of his village, Kumguri in Chirang district, claimed that he was a farmer and not involved with any militant group.

The Assam women's team has emerged victorious in the senior national Tchoukball championship 2024, held at Nagour Khandhenu in Joypur, Rajasthan.
