Noted writer and educationist Dr Prafulla Mahanta of Guwahati has been named for the ‘Man of the Year-2016’ award, instituted by Engkhong Welfare Society, Bijni of Chirang district.
Speaking the Press Conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club today in Kokrajhar, Damadhar Basumatary, president of Engkhong Welfare Society told that the Juri Board for the award has been named Dr Mahanta’s name for ‘Man of the Year’ award, who has been contributed lots towards Assamese literature, besides working for integrity and prosperity among all sections of communities in the state.
Basumatary said Dr Mahanta is popularly known across the state for his pioneer arguer of the indigenous people’s rights, minute observer and truthful journalist in his life. He said that the Engkhong Welfare Society is an associate socio-economic organization of the Engkhong publication, has been working to the welfare of social integration and uplift in the region. He said that the society has been conferring the award since 2004, those who are contributing a lot towards social, education, economic and political field in the state as well nation. The award would be conferred on December at a programme to be held at Commerce College in Kokrajhar.
BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary will grace as chief guest on the occasion.
