United Miao FC clinch Wangnia Pongte Memorial Cup
United Miao Football Club thrashed Bordumsa Football Club 5-1 to annex the Champions’ title of the 2nd Wangnia Pongte Memorial Cup Football District Level Tournament which concluded successfully, here, today. The tournament was organized by Zaaro Football Club in association with the District Sports Office, Changlang. In all 30 teams from all over the district took part in the tournament which began on Oct. 2. In today’s final encounter, UMFC’s prolific striker Aashu Das scored four goals for the winning side to single handedly win the match for his side. UMFC led 2-1 during the half time. However, after the break, UMFC added three more goals to their tally much to the delight of the thousands of spectators who cheered the players during the entire course of the match. Although, the Bordumsa side tried a lot it could not score any further. Jowkhong Singpho, ZPC Changlang District who was the chief guest gave away the champions’ trophy along with a cash prize of 1 lakh to the winners United Miao FC while N. Wangjen, SDO of Changlang District handed over the runner up trophy along with a cash prize of 50, 000 to Bordumsa FC. Azad Ali of UMFC was adjudged as the best goal keeper while Repu Rekhun of Kharsang FC was named as the top scorer. Roangling Kaan FC was adjudged as the most disciplined team.

KOKRAJHAR: Around 487 persons are being kept in the six quarantine centres set up in Kokrajhar district under strict observation with proper medical check up.
The centres have been set up by district administration to check those persons who are coming from neighbouring states towards Assam in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.
Four of the six quarantine centres were set up at Srirampur itself along the inter state border with West Bengal,one each at Fakiragram and Kokrajhar to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the district.

More than sixteen hundred NDFB cadres today formally laid down arms.
In a ceremony organised at GMCH auditorium in the presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal 1615 cadres of the outfit submitted their arms before the government authority.
Welcoming them to the mainstream chief minister Sonowal hoped that the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA(I) would follow the path of the NDFB.
A few days ago the government signed a tripritite peace treaty with all the factions of the NDFB. In the treaty the Centre and state government, reportedly, promised to upgrade the BTAD as BTR.
Several organisations including AAKRASU and ABAMSU have reportedly, called a 12-hour-long Assam bandh on January27 in protest against proposed UTC for BTAD.
These organisations are apprehensive that the Union government is going to upgrade the BTC as UTC.
Already, they have warned the Union government to abdicate such move.
Several organistions have expressed resentment over the Centre's move to upgrade the Bodo Territorial Council as Union Territorial Council.
According to sources the Centre would soon sign a peace pact with the NDFB .
In the pact upgradation of the BTC as a UTC would likely to take place, sources revealed.
Opposing the move AKRASU, ABAMSU and many other organistaions of the BTAD have warned the Union government to abdicate such decision.
