United Miao FC clinch Wangnia Pongte Memorial Cup
United Miao Football Club thrashed Bordumsa Football Club 5-1 to annex the Champions’ title of the 2nd Wangnia Pongte Memorial Cup Football District Level Tournament which concluded successfully, here, today. The tournament was organized by Zaaro Football Club in association with the District Sports Office, Changlang. In all 30 teams from all over the district took part in the tournament which began on Oct. 2. In today’s final encounter, UMFC’s prolific striker Aashu Das scored four goals for the winning side to single handedly win the match for his side. UMFC led 2-1 during the half time. However, after the break, UMFC added three more goals to their tally much to the delight of the thousands of spectators who cheered the players during the entire course of the match. Although, the Bordumsa side tried a lot it could not score any further. Jowkhong Singpho, ZPC Changlang District who was the chief guest gave away the champions’ trophy along with a cash prize of 1 lakh to the winners United Miao FC while N. Wangjen, SDO of Changlang District handed over the runner up trophy along with a cash prize of 50, 000 to Bordumsa FC. Azad Ali of UMFC was adjudged as the best goal keeper while Repu Rekhun of Kharsang FC was named as the top scorer. Roangling Kaan FC was adjudged as the most disciplined team.

The Delhi government has allotted a bungalow to Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
Government officials told Assam Times in Delhi on Friday that the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA) formally allotted the bunglow on Thursday evening. Gogoi has been allotted a C-1 type house.
Gogoi was further given exemption since the state bhawan is under construction.

Undeterred by a scorching heat people thronged in thousands at the Latashil Playground on Tuesday and participated in a protest rally organized by the All Assam Students Union to take a solemn vow to end terrorism. These people were taking out a procession on the city streets to send a strong message against the terrorist forces who have been mongering troubles for years. With banners in their hands, they shouted slogans against the terrorist and also against the Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the state saying them the mother of all troubles. Notably, hundreds of people are coming even from the outskirt of the city by bus to participate in the rally. The death of over eighty people in the serial blast on recent in the state has made these people shudder to think that its high for an united stand against the terrorists.

After a brief silence, ULFA resumes reign of terror. Suspected ULFA militants shot dead a businessman in Majuli on Friday forcing security forces to launch an intensified offensive against the outfit. The incident took place at Kamalabari chariali in the heart of the island. Two youths called up Shivaji Prasad to the Gormur-Kamalabari PWD road to discuss a business deal. As Prasad, who owned a brick kiln reach the spot, the armed youths pumped several rounds of bullets at his body and fled away. Prasad, who received bullet injuries in his chest, thigh and stomach referred to Jorhat Medical College Hospital. But was declared brought dead. Sources said Prasad was killed after he failed to meet their extortion demand. Security forces cordoned the entire area for several hours in search of the militants. But nobody has so far been arrested. Investigation is in progress.
