Sea of humanity in Guwahati

Guwahati breaks into a sea of humanity as Durga puja festival enters fourth day on Monday.

Devotees started thronging the festival venues in the premier north eastern city from early in the morning in search of divine help to restore peace and prosperity.

Heavy presence of devotees and visitors have forced the metropolitan authorities to restrict the city bus services on the busy Guwahati-Shillong Road from afternoon.

Amid the sounds of hymns, drums and cymbals, the devotees started waiting in long queue in front of the goddess to seek her blessings from early in the morning.

Cultural functions, music and drawing competitions are also lined up till Monday.

The puja is concluding on Tuesday and the idols would be immersed on the rivers and water bodies.

Security forces are heavily guarding the immersion venues beside the river Brahmaputra to ensure peace and normalcy during the immersion ceremony in the afternoon.
