Mithun health camp at Mirem

Mithun health camp was organized at Mirem village, Pasighat on Wednesday by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary where large number of eye worm infested Mithuns were treated. Eye Worm infestation is one of the most common cause of death in dwindling Mithun population in the state. If not treated in early stage may lead to corneal opacity and blindness resulting in starvation, debility and ultimately the animal succumbs, informed Dr. Naku Taloh, Key Village Officer (KVO) Pasighat  while interacting with villagers. The parasitic worm of eye, “Thelazia species” is responsible for such condition and is transmitted by the vector Musca autumnalis commonly called face fly in epidemic form, added Dr. Taloh.

The Mithun owners of Mirem appealed Dr. Naku Taloh and Dr. Tadar Tatik, Senior Vety Officer (SVO) Bilat to conduct more such camps in Ledum, Bamin and Miglung villages under Bilat circle.
