Annual academic day at Sainik School Goalpara

Sainik School Goalpara ( SSG)  held its “Annual Academic Day” for the session 2015-16 on 28 Aug 16. The day began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Brig Balendra Kumar Goswami  (Retd), Ex SSGian who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. On the august occasion held amidst a good number of parents in the school auditorium, the Chief Guest released the third edition of the school half-yearly newsletter, ‘SSG News’ meant to apprise the parents of various activities conducted in the school and the progress of their children.

Capt (IN) Edwin Jothirajan, the Principal presented the School Annual Report, which was followed by prize distribution ceremony. The Chief Guest gave away prizes to the academic toppers and champion houses in various co-curricular activities for the session 2015-16. Cadet Durlabh Das who stood first with 94.4% marks in Class XII was awarded the ‘Principal’s Gold Medal’. Cadet Abhishek Kumar was awarded the ‘Headmaster’s Silver Medal’ for his excellent performance in Class X. Cadet Adarsh Sharma received the trophy for ‘Best in Mathematics’ in Class X. The ‘Ashirbad Trophy’, for the highest scorer in Assamese in Class X was bagged by Cadet Gunjan Rajbongshi. Apart from these, ‘Certificates of Merit’ were given to 21 academic toppers of the school from classes VI to XII.

The prestigious ‘Cock House’ trophies and trophies for the ‘Best Performance in House Academics’ were lifted by Chilarai House and Eklavya House in senior & junior categories respectively. Chilarai House also clinched the trophy in ‘Inter-House English Essay Writing Competition’, while Lachit House bagged the ‘Inter-House English Debating’ trophy. Another prestigious trophy, ‘The Best SSGian’ was awarded to Cadet Debasish Saikia, the ex-School Adjutant, who remained the ‘Best Athlete’ of the school for three consecutive years. He was also a member of the school volleyball team and represented the school in CBSE Cluster-II National Volleyball Championship in 2015.

The Chief Guest congratulated all the prize winners and also motivated the others to work harder for excellence in future. He exhorted the efforts and devotion put in by the staff in pursuit of nurturing the budding cadets. At the end, a group of enthusiastic cadets presented their best in a spectacular cultural extravaganza meant for their parents and audience. The grand event concluded with the School Prayer by Sqn Ldr D Mathew, the Officiating Vice Principal.

Goalpara Sainik School Old Boys Association (OBA) organised its 9th Blood Donation Camp at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute on August 15.
