The city based senior scribe Anowar Hussain, who was suffering from cancer, expired on Saturday night. Hailed from Ghagrapar locality in Nalbari district, Anowar was working for Asomiya Pratidin as its news editor. The cancer in his mouth was detected last year, following which he was undergoing treatment. As the news broke at midnight, many journalists went to his residence in Hatigaon area of the city and paid homage to his departed soul. His mortal remains were brought to the office of Asomiya Pratidin on Sunday morning, where his colleagues paid their homage. Then he was brought to Guwahati Press Club for offering the last tribute to him by the media fraternity.
Anowar, 52, who left behind his mother, wife and two children, was cremated on Sunday afternoon after necessary rituals.
