Moti Kalita, a retired professor of Mathematics with Bajali College died at a private hospital in Guwahati sending shock in the entire area on Saturday. He was 76 when he died after suffering from diabetes for the last couple of months. He was admitted to the International Hospital in Guwahati where he passed away in the morning. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughter. His dead body was taken to Pathsala where his fans and students paid him their last respect. Later it was kept for a brief period of time at the Bajali College premises to facilitate the students and teachers pay their last respect.
Hundreds of AJYCP leaders and activists on Tuesday blocked the National Highway in Bajali area in Barpeta district opposing the Centre’s move to auction 12 oilfields to the foreign companies. Led by AJYCP’s Bajali District Committee Secretary Pranjal Das many activists thronged the National Highway in the morning where they staged one hour long blockade paralyzing the movement of normal traffic till 12.30 noon. Joint secretary Bijan Bayan and Publicity secretary Mantu Kumar Sarma were also present when AJYCP activists blocked the vital road. Talking to Assam Times, Bayan said that they will continue the uncompromising protest if the Centre refuses to listen to them.
