Purohit appointed Assam Governor

Veteran political leader Banwari Lal Purohit will soon take oath as Assam Governor.

President Pranab Mukherjee has cleared the name of the former Congress veteran and now BJP leader on Wednesday. Gauhati High Court Chief Justice will soon administer him the oath of office and secrecy at function in Raj Bhawan.

The veteran Congress leader from Nagapur was elected to the Lok Sabha. But in 1996 he was re elected as BJP candidate. In 2009 also he contest the Lok Sabha polls. But he was defeated.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (I) handed down the death penalty to two of its cadres for their alleged involvement with espionage. In a press communique, the outlawed outfit said that its two cadres, Sanjiv Sarma and Dhanjit Das, were found to be involved in espionage. Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has alleged a nefarious conspiracy by police and the army to crush their spine, engaging a section of youths who were dispatched to the jungles to join the rebel outfit. In a statement sent to media,  the proscribed outfit claimed to have caught the conspiracy as they grilled a youth from Baihata Chariali in Kamrup who recently joined the outfit.  They have published a list of youths who were trained to target the outfit.. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. According to some reports, among others,  former minister and MP Prodyut Bordoloi, former minister and MLA Rockeybool Hussain, and former minister Bismita Gogoi would quit the party at any time.
