Independence Day cekebrated in Chirang

Chirang district celebrated the 70th Independence Day along with the rest of the country on Monday at District Parade ground.
 
Rupak Kumar Mazumder, DC, Chirang graced as  the chief guest of the occasion unfurled the National flag. He inspected the parade contingents and took salute from the marching contingents. In his speech, Mazundar informed about the developmental works being done by various departments in the district. Stating about recent floods in the district where around 30 thousand people had been rendered homeless and forced to take shelter in 22 relief camps, he said that rescue and relief operations were intensified by the district administration by providing  relief materials, medical and drinking water facilities to the distressed  people as much as possible.
 'Till now more than one thousand people are taking shelter in district's 5 relief camps', he informed.

He further said about the prevailing law and order situation in the district and the steps  taken by the District administration as  precautionary measure. The ceremony was marked by distribution of awards to the winners, grants-in aid to the benefiaries and displaying of cultural items by the students along with felicitating to the students, farmers and officials. On the occasion, DC's-XI vs SP's-VI played a friendly football match.  After the formal programme, the chief guest visited stalls set up by the Army 7th- Sikh Li Regiment for weapons display and ASDMA for their equipments.

Apart from these, the Independence Day was celebrated in the district with three-day  long programmes. In this connection, a yoga programme at Kajalgaon market shed, debate competition at Kajalgaon High School and awareness programmes on patriotism and unity at VCDC level were organised on  August13. As such, on August 14 a semi-marathon race was organised with the theme 'Run for Unity' where Army, para-military forces, police, civil officials, sports personalities, students and civilians were participated.
