Kaziranga Wildlife Society (KWS)held its annual Nature Conservation Day in memory of its founder president Padmashree Robin Banerjee at the pensioners Bhawan at Chandmari in Guwahati on August 12.On the occasion the KWS Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to JFMC forest of Bhairabkunda (Gedsimani Forest) in Udalguri district.The JFMC comprising local vill;agers were instrumental in transforming a vast stretch of barren land (5500 bighas) into a green forest which today sheltres wide ranging wildlife.Delivering key note address on wildlife in urban areas of Assam,writter and conservationist Dr.Anowaruddin Choudhury said that the so called man animal conflict conflict was actually a misnomer as the animals have no role in the conflict.Senior journalist Wasbir Hussain also stressed the need for media sensitization on the issue and training for media personnel.Ismail Daimari secretary of the JFMC said that the villagers of six villages near Assam-Arunachal-Bhutah had begun an endeavour in 2007 with first plantation and since then they had planted more than 14 lakhs trees.The barren land is now a green oasis sheltering wilde range of animals and birds including wild elephants,bears,deer, leopards etc.Journalist Mubina Akhtar,secretary of Kaziranga Wildlife Society in her inaugural speech explained the purpose of the event and welcomed all the distinguished guests while senior journalist Pranay Bordoloi conducted the proceedings.The JFMC delegation felicitated a few conservation workers namely-Padum Borthakur,President;Prashanta Gogoi,Working President;Mubina Akhtar, Secretary of Kaziranga Wildlife Society;Parvati Barooah(Hasti Kanya);senior journalist cum wildlife activist Pranoy Bordoloi and wildlife activist Jayanta Kumar Das
