Humanity award for Aruna Roy

Noted social activist Aruna Roy will receive the prestigious Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2016. The Jury Board of the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) headed by Dr. Anil Boro, Associate Professor, Gauhati University finalized Roy for the award to be given away at a function in Rabindra Bhawan in
Guwahati on August 26.

Roy, a social activist is the co-founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathana (MKSS), a social and grassroots organization for the empowerment of workers and peasants. It is a major civil rights movement in India and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Right to Information Act (RTI). She is also served as a civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service before deciding to dedicate herself fully to social and political campaigns.

Police arrested 12 persons in connection with Gossaigaon shoot out incident  today for suspecting involvement with incident and linkmen of NSLA militants.Sunil Kumar, Kokrajhar SP said the Adivasi militants have done the incident due to nonpayment of demanded extortion from contractors of construction. He said strong operation has been carried out in the area against militant outfits and main culprits would be booked,he said adding that  interrogation is on  to the arrested persons.Mentioned be made that three persons were killed on the spot and  another was sustained injured when NSLA militant outfits fired at them at around 11.30 am.

Ranjan Daimary faction strongly condemned the Chirang incident where a tribal girl was raped before being murdered.According to the outfit, a particular group has been trying to repeat the 2012 communal clash.NDFB has appealed to the government to punish the culprits and adequate compensation to the deceased family. One Pradip Basumatary (24) was arrested for extorting money from the shop owners in the heart of Kokrajhar town near Assam Oil Petrol pump on Friday. Police said that two fake NDFB (S) were demanding Rs 17 lakhs from the shop owner.Police sources said that the two extortionists came in Kokrajhar town for collecting money from the shops and had prior information about their movement.Basumatary was arrested and another Daoki escaped from the spot, police said.Police also claimed to have recovered six live ammunition from the person. Basumatary claimed that they had come to collect money from the shops.
