Humanity award for Aruna Roy

Noted social activist Aruna Roy will receive the prestigious Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2016. The Jury Board of the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) headed by Dr. Anil Boro, Associate Professor, Gauhati University finalized Roy for the award to be given away at a function in Rabindra Bhawan in
Guwahati on August 26.

Roy, a social activist is the co-founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathana (MKSS), a social and grassroots organization for the empowerment of workers and peasants. It is a major civil rights movement in India and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Right to Information Act (RTI). She is also served as a civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service before deciding to dedicate herself fully to social and political campaigns.

Security forces apprehended two cadres of National Santhali Liberation Army (NSLA), a militant outfit of Adivasi community from Telipara under Gossaigaon police station on Monday night in Kokrajhar district.The cadres were identified as Albert Murmu and Lapun Kisku. A hardcore cadre of NDFB(Songbijit faction) identified as Nijwm Basumatry was killed in an encounter with security forces at Pepsu Road along India-Bhutan border under Kachugaon police station  late last night in Kokrajhar district.Police said that security forces belonging to Assam police and army conducted an operation in Pepu area under Kachugaon police station in Gossaigon sub-division in the district of Kokrajhar late last night where an exchange of fire was held and a NDFB cadre died on the spot.Police recovered,  one 9 mm pistol and grenade from slain militant cadre.
