AAGSU to demand security of common man in Assam

Suspected Gorkha Liberation Army of Assam (GLAA) on 22nd July 2008 gunned down one Amar Bahadur Bista Sarkari Gaon Burah of Missamari of Dhekiajuli Sub- Division in Sonitpur district. The same suspected group is also alleged to have involved in widespread extortion and kidnapping in the following two months. If the feared people of the region are to believed GLAA have been operating in this area over the last few months and state police is least bothered about the development. Talking to Assam Times over telephone Sonitpur district President of AAGSU Krishna Rai informed that AAGSU volunteers of the region is threatened by the state police instead of trying to trace the involved activists. He condemned the killing and termed the act as cowardice in the name of Gorkhas. Sources added that neither the state home ministry nor department concerned has confirmed the formation of GLAA. However reports in media earlier told it was Gorkha Liberation Army (GLA) operated by Ajai Subba who was later arrested from a hotel in Dimapur. The central AAGSU delegation will leave Tezpur to attend a protest rally on 29th July 2008 and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam, through the Deputy Commissioner Sonitpur seeking ex-gratia of 5 lakhs to next kin of the victim and provide adequate security to the people of the state. When contacted Digambar Chetri Publicity Secretary AAGSU said that Gorkhas have always been known as peace loving community in the state, reports as such is unfortunate. In this connection we have nothing to comment as a democratic organization but however there should be no harassment to our activists across the state in name of GLAA, he added.

I guess people take guns because no one listen to the genuine (?) demands if asked for in peaceful ways. But, outfits such as need to be curbed in time.

Kick them out before it's too late. It's a nuisance. We, Gorkhas are peace loving people. We should not allow this to happen.
