Flood waters receded in Majuli. But the biggest river island on the planet has yet to get out of the blues. The post flood scene takes a pathetic turn in Tikira Chapori area where dairy farming has suffered a serious setback. More than 400 cows died soon after the outbreak of a disease which has taken an epidemic turn.
With 8000 cows in 77 sheds, hundreds of farmers have been earning bread and butter for years. In yet another incident, a huge herd of wild elephant has trampled many cowsheds on Saturday night.
An Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) delegation rushed to the spot on Sunday and took stock of the situation. Local cattle famers apprised the AJYCP team of the pathetic scene which is a major setback for the entire diary sub sector.
The organization has appealed to the people for helping hand to provide succor for the affected people in the river island.
