No sign of Gopinath Bordoloi's death anniversary at Raha
The residents of Raha on Friday criticised the state government and local administration of Raha for not officially observing the death anniversary of the first Chief Minister of Assam Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi who died on August 5 in 1950, at his residence cum memorial museum here.
The local administration , at the same time, did not correspondence any of the local social organization to conduct the anniversary, alleged several organizations here.
"The house in which Bordoloi was born and spent his early life before shifting to Guwahati was later turned into a museum by the government of Assam in 1998 respecting the appeal made by the people of Raha for the same. The museum was inaugurated by the then Governor of Assam S.K.Sinha on June 6 in the said year. But this is a total negligence of the local administration and state government as they forgot to observe the death anniversary of this great son of Assam here in his house", reacted Mridul Hazarika, executive member, AASU, central committee.
Rantu Mudoi, a socially conscious resident alleged that the government and local administration of Raha insulted Bordoloi by not announcing official programmes to mark the late Chief Minister’s death anniversary and said local administration owed an apology to the people of Raha in this regard.
Abani Saikia , president president, Akanir Kabita Ghar, a social & cultural organization for children here , lamented that though it was a tradition to conduct the birth and death anniversaries of former Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers, the government had neglected the important occasion like the death anniversary of late Gopinath Bordoloi who was instrumental in establishing Guwahati University, High Court of Assam, Assam Medical College, Assam Veterinary College etc.
Similarly, another local residents who requested anonymity said, the local administration should tender public apologies, if it is a deliberate negligence. If it is a goof-up by the official machinery, stringent action should be initiated against those found guilty of the development,” he said.
