Karbi Anglong Day on Aug 6
Assam is a land of many ethnic communities and tribes which can boost because of its diversified cultural kaleidoscope. Each of the tribes and communities posses rich custom, tradition and heritage. Karbis, one of the major ethnic groups, also have rich and unique cultural heritage of its own. Celebrating such a glorious and rich cultural heritage and in a sincere effort to bring the people of Karbi Anglong and the people of the plains more close, the 2nd Karbi Anglong Day celebrations will be observed on 6th August in Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati .
The theme of this year’s celebrations has been earmarked as “showcasing Karbi Anglong – Glorious Past, vibrant Present and Promising Future”. The entire day’s celebration shall witness a host of programmes including ones which would showcase the rich culture and heritage of the Karbi community, interactive session and cultural performances. Stalls shall also be put up displaying ethnic handicrafts and traditional food items.
His Excellency, Shri P B Acharya , Governor of Assam , shall be the chief guest during the inaugural session , Shri Sarbanada Sonowal , Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam would be chief guest during open session . There would be host of other dignitaries and guests who shall attend the daylong celebration.

The Bodo medium was introduced on 18th May 1963 in Assam. It was in 1976 the Bodo medium Students were lucky to appear for the Secondary Examination. A good number of students have passed out since then. Many intellectuals and people working in different fields have also studied in Bodo medium. There are about 20 lakhs Bodo population in Assam of which 4 lakh are students in Bodo medium studying in lower primary, upper primary and high schools in Bodo medium. There are only 27 Bodo medium provincialised high schools in Assam which do have sufficient teachers and no infrastructure for the students. As a part of the ongoing programme to unite young people against climate change, Youth Alliance for Climate (YAC) is organising youth summit in Guwahati and Gangtok on 17, 18 and 20th May. . In a bid to generate awareness on climate change young people from different parts of northeast came together to form Youth Alliance for Climate in 2008. It was a youth programme conducted by Indo Global Social Service Society as a part of their SMILE programme. The participants of that programme decided to form a network as the discussion of the youth programme was on climate change. YAC organises programme in different parts of North East.
