An intensified agitation awaits Raha demanding the proposed All India Institute of Medical Science in the central Assam area. Various local organizations and individuals have pledged to come out unitedly on Tuesday hours after in his budget speech finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma proposed an all India level Aryurvedic institute in the place.
Talking to Assam Times, AIIMS Demand Committee General Secretary Birinchi Bhuyan said that they are not ready to compromise the earlier demand. “We are not satisfied with the announcement of the huge Aryurvedic institute. We need AIIMS only,” said Bhutan.
Bhuyan observed that a massive agitation is required to ensure the proposed AIIMS in Raha. He said, “We don’t have any alternative to an agitation for the proposed AIIMS here. We are ready to face any eventuality. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with the 14 legislators who represent the central Assam would be responsible.”
Raha AASU leader Mridul Hazarika said,”nowhere we have seen a place with both IIT and AIIMS. Where is the slogan of sustainable development for all. Did we expect these from the new government?”
Tiwa Student Union adviser Prahlad Mosrong also came down heavily on the government. He said,” we are all prepared for an intensified agitation and the government would be responsible for it. We won’t allow the scarify of Mintu Deori to go in vain.”
Notably, Chief Minister Sonowal last week assured a delegation that his government would write to New Delhi to do end the logjam. But the organizations are waiting to resume the agitation if they fail to get any response.
