The Assam State Human Rights Commission has asked the government to probe the recent police firing in Raha where a local protester was killed.
A division bench of the panel comprising Dr Justice AH Saikia and Tarun Phookan issued notice to the Chief Secretary to get the probe done by an officer of the rank of secretary and to submit the findings within the next 30 days.
A local protestor Mintu Deori was killed and several others sustained serious injury when police opened fire on a group of protestors at Raha who tried to enforce a bandh on July 16 demanding the proposed AIIMS in the area.

The Centre has raised the margin money for khadi and village industries from Rs 66 cr to Rs 100 cr for the next financial year 2013-2014.This was confirmed by none other than Union Minister of State for MSME (Independent) KH Muniyappa in Guwahati. He said that the decision was taken at a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and senior officials . Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. But the youth claimed that he was asked by the girl's father to take her home but she entered a wedding function on the way and went missing from there.
