The monsoon woes refuse to die out on Sunday when incessant rains resulted in the swallowing water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries. The surging waters have been wreaking havoc in 15 districts submerging as many as 400 villages damaging standing crops spread in about 16,240 hectares.
The current wave of floods in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Morigaon have already affected more than 2 lakh people across the state. More rains will further compound the problem during the next 24 hours. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, homes and fields have been submerged by the surging waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
