No respite from rainwater woes

The brief respite from the rain water woes in Guwahati ended when rains resumed in the city on Friday.

Many areas in Nabin Nagar, Anil Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Zoo Road have again come under the rainwaters in the afternoon against disrupting the normal life in the premier north eastern city.

The fresh rains that lashed the city on Friday afternoon resulted in a heavy traffic snarls on the GS Road and RG Baruah Road much to the major inconvenience for the commuters who heaved a sigh of relief in the morning.

Many low laying parts of are in Nabin Nagar, Anil Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Zoo Road are still under the rains waters. “The fresh rains on Friday have compounded the woes. The river Bharalu is no longer capable to carry the surging waters when the mighty Brahmaputra is over flowing in Guwahati.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (I) handed down the death penalty to two of its cadres for their alleged involvement with espionage. Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has alleged a nefarious conspiracy by police and the army to crush their spine, engaging a section of youths who were dispatched to the jungles to join the rebel outfit. In a statement sent to media,  the proscribed outfit claimed to have caught the conspiracy as they grilled a youth from Baihata Chariali in Kamrup who recently joined the outfit.  They have published a list of youths who were trained to target the outfit.. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. According to some reports, among others,  former minister and MP Prodyut Bordoloi, former minister and MLA Rockeybool Hussain, and former minister Bismita Gogoi would quit the party at any time.
