AJYCP strike on Monday

The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.

The big question is when Public Sector companies like OIL and ONGC cannot make profit from these fields, how can Private Sector Parties can make profit. Are they superior to ONGC or OIL in in technology, equipments and manpower ?

The Assam government has recommended CBI probe into the rhino poaching incidents that repeatedly rocks Kaziranga National Park. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the state government had already written to CBI for probe into the recent rhino poaching incidents in KNP. He said that it might be a big political conspiracy into the big horn animal killings, where militants are also involved. The move came 24 hours after poachers killed ome more rhino in the word heritage site. Assam had lost at least 42 rhinos in 2012, where poachers killed 21 rhinos in KNP. In this year, poachers killed seven rhinos in Kaziranga.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the Assam State Police Accountability Commission would be set up in several areas to ensure better public participation in accountability and transparency at various levels of police hierarchy.Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati that the panel now based in Guwahati will have a forum each in upper Assam, north bank of river Brahmaputra and Barak Valley in south Assam for the convenience of people. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday moved Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention in the construction of three dams on the upstream of the Brahmaputra. In a letter to the Prime Minster, Gogoi pointed out that though the Chinese Government had given assurance that they would take care of the interest of downstream areas, the State Government has apprehensions that it might affect the State.Gogoi in his letter said that the ‘entire Assam economy East is dependent on the Brahmaputra and that the construction of three new dams on the upstream of the river might affect the interest of the region in the downstream areas.
