Amid a state wide brouhaha on the move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam, both AGP and BJP have been taking contradictory positions on the sensitive issue.
BJP leaders and ministers have strongly advocated the move saying that it would, in fact, help Assam claim the rightsover its own resources.
“We are bound to endorse the move. We can’t oppose it. This is our policy. These oil fields won’t help Assam do anything. We would in turn get money from these non profitable oilfield,” said a BJP leader. He said, “had there been a Congress led government at the Centre same it would have been done.”
AGP leaders are not upbeat with the move. “We are opposed to any move to auction these oilfield. We would have to talk to the authority,” said an AGP leader on the condition of anonymity.
He said, “we would discuss the issue to clear our position on the move to auction our resource.” But he could not tell when they would take up the matter. The formal process is set to take place on July 1.

Sensation prevails in Bagsa district of Assam on Sunday a day after four teenagers were killed in Borbori area forcing police to step up operation to nab the culprits.The incident took place at Geruwa Aashram village on Saturday midnight when unidentified miscreants sprung upon the four youths with sharp weapons. The Assam Secretariat and other offices have been declared as a protected area. The order was issued by Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotri, who directed that none except bonafide residents and public servants of the secretariat and other offices could enter the area without prior permission. A grenade explosion rocked Belshri railway station in Sonitpur district on Friday. But there was no report of any injury. According to police, a five-member group of unidentified persons on motorcycles lobbed two grenades at a paddy field at Belshri under Misamari Police station at around 3.30 in the afternoon. At least five persons were killed when a the vehicle carrying them collided head on in a dumper Palashbari area in the outskirt of Guwahati on Friday.The shocking accident took place in the afternoon at Bhagawatipara where a women died on the spot.
