Cross border terrorism, infiltration and Indo-Bangla border fencing will be dominating in the discussion between Indian foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and his Bangladesh counterpart Mohd Touhid Hussain, in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to information, New Delhi is all set to press Dhaka to act against such elements in view of the revelation of Bangladeshi link being found to several terror incidents in India. Menon is expected to take up the issue of Bangladesh being used by terrorists as a base or route to reach here and carry out anti-India activities.

A number of terror attacks that have taken place in India have had linkages in Bangladesh, causing concern here. Infiltration by militants via the Bangladesh border is easier as it is a porous frontier. Work is on to fence the border but there are some places where fencing cannot take place at a distance of 150 yards from the boundary as laid down by the international norms due to hill tracts and water bodies. In this aspect, India is seeking cooperation from Bangladesh to allow it to set up the fence.

Infiltration from Bangladesh cannot be stopped until and unless corrupt BSF personnel guarding the border are brought to the right track. This force is helping arms smuggling, cow smuggling as well as infiltration by taking bribe from the infiltrators. So far border fencing is concern, some land has to be acquired from its rightful owners and before acquiring it by the district administrations the govt. has to notify it in its official gazette. Proposals submitted by the district administration for publication of notification are lying pending at government press since long. So how can one hope that the fencing will be completed within a stipulated time? It is a serious matter to be inquired in to.

Mysterious blast in Lahwal; 1 killed 11 injured

One died and eleven others have been left injured at an accidental blast at an aluminum factory in Lahwal in Dibrugarh district. According to information, the blast took place at around 12-15 but the reason has yet to be ascertained. Poaching: Sonowal seeks centre’s intervention

In a statement released here, he expressed grave concern over the continuing poaching cases and demanded immediate intervention of environment minister S Raghupathi saying the Assam government has been failing to protect the Kaziranga National Park. Mr Sonowal observed that that the state forest department is busy in mudslinging instead of taking steps to check poachings in the national park.

Poaching: AASU dharna in front of KNP

Hundreds of AASU activists are staging demonstrations on Thursday in front of the Kaziranga National Park alleging the park authorities’ failure to protect the rhinos and other animals from poachings which have been a regular features these days. They, further demand forest minister Rockybul Hussain’s resignation saying he has no moral right at a time when a good number of rhinos have been killed during his regime.

Encounter in Nambor forest: 2 KNLF cadres killed

Two Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) militants have been killed in an encounter with Army in the Nambor Reserve Forest in Golaghat district in Assam on Thursday. According to information, the militants were caught in a fierce fighting with the 66 Field Regiment jawans in the Forest areas. An AK-56 rifle and a grenade were recovered from the slain militants. Security forces are continuing operations in the area. The militants have yet to be identified.

Barama still tense

Situation still is remaining tense in Barama following the killing of Bodo leader Babul Swargiary by unidentified miscreants on Sunday. RComm to provide CDMA service in Northeast

The Reliance Communications has received government nod to provide CDMA services under the existing Unified Access Service Licences in the entire north eastern region. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has granted in-principle permission to its subsidiary Reliance Telecom in this regard, RComm said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. The RTL would offer CDMA services also in addition to its existing GSM services in Assam and Northeast service areas.
