Amid growing incidents of statewide men-elephant conflict, yet another full grown elephant died of electrocution in Udlaguri district sending shockwaves among the nature lovers.
The shocking incident took place at Dimakuchi along the Indo-Bhutan border at night where the pregnant female elephant was moving in the human habitat in search of food.
Talking to Assam Times, a section of local residents said that some of the villagers install electric wires to prevent the wild elephants from destroying their property.
The elephant was believed to have tried to cross the electrocuted barb wire fencing. The carcass of the huge animal was spotted in the morning. The forest department officials buried the animal after the post mortem on Saturday.
Local residents further slammed the authority alleging failure to firmly deal with the wanton elephants who have been unleashing terror for the last couple of months.
